How GreenGos Goes Wrong: It Does NOT Sell Pluckers’ Lemon Pepper Chicken Wings

Ryan Keith McCann, Senior Food Critic of the Texas Travesty

In their own words, GreenGos is “about real, wholesome, honest, sustainable, healthy, balanced meals. And perhaps most importantly: FAST.” While, yeah, sure, it might be all those things, you’ll notice that GreenGos (SPOILER ALERT) does NOT sell Lemon Pepper chicken wings from Pluckers Wing Bar.

On a day when it was hotter outside than Pluckers Fire-in-the-Hole wings, I stopped by GreenGos’ West Campus location (404 W. 26th St., Austin, TX 78705). Stepping out of the heat, I walked in and ordered my usual – lemon pepper wings and cheese fries – and that’s when the tragedy first hit me.

GreenGos doesn’t even have chicken wings, let alone Pluckers’ glorious, juicy lemon pepper wings, nor do they offer fries, let alone Pluckers heart-warming, bacon-topped, cheese fries.

At that point, I resisted the overwhelming urge to just leave and go to Pluckers and, instead, I decided to look at the GreenGos menu first. Essentially, they have a bunch of healthy (or, to use a synonym, nasty) stuff like wraps and salads and tons of that other fancy-schmancy hippie health stuff (but, sadly, no fried cheese).

But that’s not even what really grinded my gears.

Those schmucks bragged all about their low-fat, additive-free, in-house-made dressings before they explained that none of their dressings – not even a single one of their dressings – was lemon pepper. At that point, I hid my teary eyes behind my sunglasses and, heavy with disappointment, walked out of GreenGos - a restaurant that wasn’t Pluckers.
